Original abstractA substrate for an in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display device comprises: a substrate; a gate line on the substrate; a data line on the substrate, crossing the gate line to define a pixel region; a common electrode in the pixel region on the substrate; a thin film transistor formed at a crossing of the gate line and data line; an insulating layer on the common electrode, the insulating layer having a concave portion spaced apart from the common electrode; and a pixel electrode in the concave portion.
